SCENT TO EARTH: LOEWE’S Home Scent Collection Takes Inspiration from the Garden

Perhaps it’s all the time people were forced to shelter in place during the pandemic, but there seems to be a increased interest in making not just you, but also your home smell good. Venerated Spanish design house LOEWE is leading the way with a new range of home scents that draws inspiration from Victorian botanical gardens and apothecaries. LOEWE’s in-house perfumier Nuria Cruelles has interpreted eleven plant essences — honeysuckle, beetroot, juniper berry, tomato leaves, coriander, liquorice, luscious pea, oregano, cypress balls, ivy, and even the scent of marihuana — each expressed in candles, home diffusers, soaps, and more.

As for the packaging, leave it to LOEWE’s creative director Jonathan Anderson to come up with equally inspiring solution, especially for the candles, which come in ribbed terracotta pots in various sizes, modeled after 5th century Greek pottery, or candlesticks shaped into Louis XIV-era-inspired candleholders. With so much olfactory and tactile stimuli — both scientific and sentimental — this winter promises to be a feast for the senses.
